This feature supports compliant billing workflows, reduces invoice rejection rates, and integrates seamlessly with the firm’s existing billing and invoicing processes.
¶ 2. Enabling LEDES Billing for a Client
Before generating LEDES invoices, LEDES Billing must be enabled for the specific client or matter.
¶ Steps to Enable LEDES Billing
- Open the Client Detail page.
- Select Edit Client (visible in your left window).
- Locate the LEDES Billing section.
- Turn LEDES Billing ON.
- Select the required LEDES Format, such as:
- LEDES 1998B
- LEDES 2000
- LEDES XML
- Save the client settings.
Once enabled, all invoices generated for this client will be eligible for LEDES export through LEDES Manager.
This ensures each client is configured according to the insurance company’s billing requirements.

After posting a standard invoice, users can generate a LEDES file.

- Select the client and invoice.
- Choose the LEDES format configured in Edit Client.
- Review the auto‑populated billing data.
- Validate the file.
- Export or send the LEDES file.
LEDES Manager extracts:
- Time entries
- UTBMS activity/task codes
- Expense codes
- Rates
- Taxes (if applicable)
- Matter identifiers
- Insurance billing references
This ensures the LEDES file meets insurer requirements.

- UTBMS Activity Codes
- UTBMS Task Codes
